Here is a truly magnificent specimen. You will see in my listings that I am not one to overuse the words "rare", "unusual", "fantastic" or other hype, but this one is all of these and more. Hydrocarbons are not unheard of in the Hardin Co. fluorite mines but usually occurs as tiny inclusions in the fluorite of as a oily film on some specimens. This one has a patch of thick "roofing tar" type asphalt on one end. I theorize that there must have been a fair quantity of a thinner hydrocarbon product present when the pocket was open that spilled over the freshly broken edge and as the volatiles evaporated, it left a thick asphalt type tar behind. Pretty unusual. It is from one of the older properties too-- probably mined in the late '30's or early '40's. I have had it since the early 1950's. It is from the W.L.Davis-Deardorff Mine, one of the Ozark-Mahoning Group, Cave-In-Rock, Hardin County, Illinois. PRICE REDUCED!!!! FROM $1395.00 TO $995.00, hardin county
