Legendary dance – Odissi. The Guru Parampara and Famous Odissi Dancers

'Odissi' is one of the legendary art of Orissa. The love theme of Lord Krishna and Lordess Radha were prominently described in this dance. Odissi dance is recognized by India Government in 1958, with introducing at Sangeeth Natak Academy by Mrs. Indrani Rehman. 'Odissi' dance originates from Orissa, is one of the recognized dances in India apart from Kathak, Kuchipudi and Bharat Natyam. The various steps of Odissi dance are, Mangalacharan, Batu Nritya, Pallavi, Abhinaya and Mokshya. The dance based on the songs of Goddess Radha and God Krishna. Most of the songs were written by Jayadev (Gita Govinda) and Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja, Kabi Surya Baladev Rath, Banamali, Gopal Krishna, & Vidagdha Kabi Abhimanyu Samant Singhara. Earlier this dance was performed in front of Sri Jagannath, in the year 1958 Odissi dance recognized as one of the classical dance form.
